Why Wellspring?
The indication of water is in the name: Glenwood Springs. The hot springs that give this city its name have drawn people here for generations—travelers, locals, and sojourners all trying to find renewal in the same place. Yet, a place is not how the soul can be renewed. It felt right that our evangelism program should carry that same spirit.
Wellspring is drawn from John 4, where Jesus stops at Jacob's Well and strikes up a conversation with a Samaritan woman going about her ordinary day. She wasn't on the margins of society in the way we typically imagine—she was someone living her regular life, carrying her regular burdens, doing what she did every afternoon. And yet Jesus meets her exactly there, in the middle of the mundane, and offers her something she didn't know she was looking for: "a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
That's the heart of what we're doing. Glenwood Springs is full of people living full (or so they think), comfortable lives—and yet the same offer Jesus made at that well is still open. The water never runs dry. There's no background requirement, no spiritual résumé needed. Just a willingness to stop and have a conversation.
The word wellspring itself means the source of something—the origin point from which everything else flows. We believe the gospel is exactly that: not one good idea among many, but the source of real and lasting life. This life is only offered on this side of eternity, but it affects how one lives on both sides. Our hope is that through conversation and relationships, we get to point people back to the source of this true life.
The Two Parts
The Evangelists
This is the group that is the “hands” and “feet.” This group, through the power of the Spirit, initiates conversations with those going about their day. The goal here is see the hurt in someone’s life, have compassion, then invite them into participation with the kingdom of God—which brings restoration to the four areas of life (God, others, ourselves, and creation).
The Prayer Team
This group is the foundation of the entire operation. Without prayer to the triune God, the evangelists could not evangelize on their own effort. The prayer team ask for intercession for open doors, softened hearts, and bold conversations of whoever God puts in the evangelists’ path.
